“Celebrating Life’s Stories” is the 2018 theme for National Skilled Nursing Care Week (NSNCW), formerly known as National Nursing Home Week. Today we honor Bobby Long.
Described by his wife as one of the finest musicians in Harrodsburg Bobby long was born in Garrard County in 1938. In fact he is celebrating his 80th birthday this coming up Monday May 21st.
For a living Bobby stained, finished fixed, and restored furniture and floors to their original state for Shakertown, but his real passion was in music, which he was fully engulfed in since he was a kid. His whole family was involved in music and having good times. His wife sang and played many instruments, his oldest daughter played the drums, the youngest played the rhythm guitar, and his oldest son played some base guitar. In total Bobby and his wife have five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Bobby has played with some of the finest artists that have come out of the Grand Ole Opry, Renfro Valley, and local theater groups. He has shared the stage with Crystal Gayle, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Barbara Mandrell just to name a few. His wife also sang with the Gaithers and along with her husband had concerts in order to raise money with for children with cancer.
Bobby and wife and family have sung all over Kentucky, in the mountains, also in Indiana and for VFWs groups and Veterans, sometimes playing up to six nights a week. However, one thing they always found their way back to was playing piano and organ at the church. Their faith is one of the things that they consider most important in their lives.
